When BYU Football played UNLV down in Vegas in November, we knew we weren't going to make a bowl game, so some of my friends from the ROC Board and I decided to go down. I went with my friend Courtney, who was only going because her boyfriend of three weeks was there with his family. Her boyfriend Ryan and his family had tickets to the game. She and Ryan broke up the next week. Our friend Max, who was kind of in love with Courtney, also had family down there. Our friend Zach went down as well with some of his friends. Zach and Courtney went between dating and friends for a few months before Zach got a different girlfriend, who he eventually married.

Day 1

Courtney and I drove down to Vegas and stayed at my dad's condos. We sat poolside all day and watched these girls have a photoshoot for literally two and a half hours. It was hysterical. Security actually came and escorted them out because they were staying there as part of an Airbnb. My dad had been trying to get all the Airbnbs out of Boca Raton because it's a gated community and he did not like the vibe. It also invites several legal dilemmas. It was super funny to watch not only the pictures but also the escort out of the pool area.

From L to R: me, Courtney, Ryan, Max, and Zach

We headed out to the game that night. Courtney and I ended up sitting next to Ryan's family the whole night, which was kind of awkward. Ryan had never had a girlfriend before and Courtney had never met his family. I actually got along really well with Ryan's older brother, so it wasn't terrible for me. During halftime, we met up with our other friends and took the terrible picture you see at left. It definitely wasn't our best look, but also the stadium lights definitely can wash you out. Shockingly, BYU ended up beating UNLV so that was about the best part of the trip, at least for me.

Day 2

Courtney and I woke up around 10am and then had lunch at Hash House A Go Go. We then drove home because we had to work the BYU Basketball game that night at 7. Because we were driving, I was wearing my glasses, like I normally do when I drive. When we got to the game, we walked in and the rest of our ROC Board friends cheered, which was a nice reaction. My on-again-off-again boyfriend at the time, Payton Dastrup, was warming up at the time. Right when we caught my eye to say hello, I got nailed in the face with a basketball SO. HARD. TJ Haws had been meaning to throw a no look pass to one of his teammates and ended up hitting me really hard. I was lucky my glasses didn't break. It honestly hurt so bad. Apparently it looked terrible too because Payton stopped warming up to come over and see if I was okay. I turned out to be fine, but that was the one and only time I ever wore glasses to a BYU sporting event.

Life Lessons

Group dynamics can be hard when you're dealing with three men who all like the same woman.

Don't wear glasses to sporting events if you are alternating between being on the court and sitting front row.
